The Welsh Government Learning Grant Further Education (WGLG-FE) is available for people who are aged 19 or over in post compulsory education who are ordinarily resident in Wales. Funds are available for both full-time and part-time study, as long as your course amounts to 275 contact hours or more a year. If you are under the age of 19 you can apply for the Education Maintenance Allowance instead.
The grant is means-tested, up to a maximum of £1,500 for full-time study and £750 for part-time study and is provided to help with the costs of study. Your household income must be £18,370 or less in order to receive financial support.
To be eligible for the WGLG-FE you must be aged 19 or over in post compulsory education. You must also be ordinarily resident in Wales. If you have previously received the WGLG-FE while studying on a course that was at the same level (or higher) as the course you want to apply for, you will not be eligible for funding.
Application forms can be downloaded from Student Finance Wales. Information and guidance notes are provided with the forms. Your parents/guardian/partner (if relevant) will need to complete the relevant sections of the form and original documents will need to be sent as supporting evidence.
More information about the WGLG-FE can be obtained from Student Finance Wales. Comprehensive details about funding for further education can be obtained from Student Cash: A Directory of Learner Funding Sources.
