What is the Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust?

The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust was established at the wish of William Hesketh Lever, the first Viscount Leverhulme. On his death in 1925, Lord Leverhulme left a proportion of his interest in the company he had founded, Lever Brothers, in trust for specific beneficiaries and, in particular, for certain trade charities.

A limited number of bursaries are offered through the Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust to undergraduates who are the son, daughter, spouse, widow or widower of commercial travellers, chemists or grocers. If you are not in one of these categories, other university funding may be available.

How much money is available from the Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust?

The maximum amount you can be awarded is £3,000 per year. This sum will be adjusted according to your individual circumstances, needs and the funds available. The annual bursary is available for the duration of the course although payments will not be backdated. Funds are distributed to the learning provider and not to individual students. The learning provider is responsible for distributing the funds to you each term.
