Index-linked Savings Certificates

Invest up to £15,000 in a Certificate that is guaranteed to be safe and backed by HM Treasury
What are Index-linked Savings Certificates?

Index-linked Savings Certificates are provided by National Savings and Investments (NS&I) and are lump sum investments that are designed to be held for fixed terms. They provide the opportunity for you to invest tax free and are backed by HM Treasury so that your investment is 100% secure. Your savings are guaranteed to grow ahead of inflation if you hold the certificate for at least a year.

How much money can I invest in an Index-linked Savings Certificate?

At time of writing in 2017 current issues of Index-linked Savings Certificates are only available to existing customers who wish to renew a maturing Certificate. Visit NS&I for up-to-date information.

How much interest do I get from an Index-linked Savings Certificate?

The Certificates pay a fixed rate of interest on top of the rate of inflation. The fixed interest rate increases year on year, so it is important that the Certificates are held for the full term to gain the full fixed rate of interest. There is also a separate, variable part of the return, which is linked to inflation as measured by the Retail Prices Index (RPI).

Can I cash in my Index-linked Savings Certificate early?

You can cash in your Certificate early, but you won't receive the full compound interest. If you want to find out how much your Certificates are worth use the NS&I online calculator.

Where can I find more information about Index-linked Savings Certificates?

Visit the NS&I website for more information about Index-linked Savings Certificates. You may also be interested in Individual Savings Accounts and Children's Bonds.
