The Education Maintenance Allowance

Cash payments for school pupils and college students from low income households to encourage young people to remain in education and training

Through this scheme a weekly payment of £30 and periodic bonuses are paid to young people aged 16 – 18 from low income households to encourage them to stay on at school or college. This scheme has now closed in England but is still available in other parts of the UK.
